Battle of the Books is a reading incentive program for students in 3rd and 4th Grade at OPES. Students read books and come together with their teams during weekly meetings to discuss the books they are reading and to prepare for the culminating Book Battle. The student competition will allow teams to demonstrate their understanding of the texts they have read and build a joy for reading in themselves and others.

The OPES library is a wonderful place, and Junior Librarians help to make it even better!
Junior Librarian Club is open to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students who have a desire to help out in the media center in the mornings before school. Junior Librarian Club students check books in, process library holds, assist students with open check out, and work on various other daily tasks to keep the media center in great shape. Applications are taken in both the Fall and the Spring semesters.
Safety patrol is for 5th grade students only. We have patrol on duty every morning and every afternoon. Safety patrol responsibilities include raising and lowering the flags each day, encouraging and enforcing safety at all times, assisting drivers by opening and closing doors in the car line, helping with our younger OPES students during drop off and pick up.
Detailed information on applying to be a part of safety patrol will be given to 4th grade students in the spring.
